Water does not fill

THis unit is 32 years old. It ran vey well before this happened. One day the machine sounds not like usual when washing and I found it did not fill water for the "Light Wash" cycle. I tried to help by putting water in it at fill times and it washed well. A couple of weeks later it stopped filling for normal cycle. Then a week later not filling water at all while still washing well if I help fill water. Somebody say replace the inlet valve. Is that right? (I bought it second hand 6 months ago on Facebook because the space in front of my counter can only allow a 26" door to lay over. (Old style) After my 25 old machine failed I tried to buy one with short door like this but it lasted only more than a year. I was happy this worked so well. I have searched but can't find new ones with short door.
