loading of detergent

when I use the dishwasher, I am using liquid tablets inserted inside the component with the door. The door barely opens and usually the package is pretty much undisturbed or near normal state. Is this unit 587.14139102 designed for powder detergent only? There was residue of powder in this little box unit when we moved in. Thank you for your time and assistance.
