Fisher-Paykel OD302

This unit has been operating fine for 3 years,however, a series of repeated power on/off jolts during a storm fried the clock/controller unit on this double oven. The 2 ovens operate, but I can't use any timing features or the temperature probes. The replacement part can only be obtained from Fisher-Paykel or Sears Parts at $200+ each. The ovens must be slid out of the wall to replace the faulty part. This brand is like buying a Mercedes. If you aren't ready to pay extremely high prices for parts and service, look at other brands. This event has prompted me to install a whole house surge protector. Many devices in the home have microprocessors that are vulnerable to power surges or rapid on/off fluctuations in the electrical service. The surge protector (about $55) is mounted on the electrical service panel, is self contained and requires a 20 amp breaker. A cheap price to pay considering the appliance repairs that many be needed without one.
